What is AVID?
El Roble offers two levels of AVID Elective Courses. The general AVID elective course is an elective offered at middle and high schools designed to prepare students in the academic middle for college readiness and success in a global society. AVID Excel is a middle school English language development elective course for long-term English Language Learners, designed to accelerate academic language acquisition, bride into high school AVID, increase access to college preparatory coursework, and empower students to be successful in a global society.
Both AVID courses are offered to both 7th and 8th grade students as a yearlong elective course. The course provides support, academic monitoring, and tutorials/scholar groups. The writing process, Socratic questioning, collaborative learning, and reading are the core strategies of the program.
