Claremont High School's girls' track and field squad transformed the CIF-SS Masters Meet into a showcase of school records and state qualifiers, sending all seven athletes to this week's State Championships in Clovis. The team showed calm confidence from the opening warm-ups, and that momentum peaked when the 4×800 quartet of Kaitlyn Smith, Camila Trevino-Davila, Isla Bulmer, and anchor Grace Smith charged from a sixth-place seed to first. Their fearless run chopped 22 seconds off their season-best and set a new school record at 8:59.
The relay fireworks continued in the 4×400. Zylah Araujo, Zenani Guannu, and Annika Graham-Scanlon each delivered personal bests to hold the Wolfpack in contention before Grace Smith closed with a blistering sub-55-second anchor. The 3:50 finish lowered the program mark by five seconds and clinched eighth place overall, while individual highlights included Guannu's 18-9 long jump for fourth, Bulmer's 4:52 in the 1,600 for eighth, and Smith's 2:10 for third in the 800.
Distance coach Mark Batres credits late-season tweaks that shifted focus toward rest, recovery, precise race plans, and deep friendships that link the sprint and distance crews. "They thrive on racing for each other," Batres said. "If they bring that same passion to State, anything is possible." Head coach Ernest Gregoire echoed the pride felt across campus: "It is rewarding to see great things happening for these girls. They are the kind of athletes you dream about coaching—committed students, fierce competitors, and some of the kindest young people you will ever meet. They have earned every bit of this success, and I am certain they will inspire everyone who watches them compete."
